GISBORNE, JAN 23 (AP/UNB) - Uncapped allrounder Sam Wells has been added the New Zealand squad for its one-off cricket test against Zimbabwe after a strong performance for the New Zealand XI in its three-day match against the tourists.

The 27-year-old Wells scored 65 in the New Zealand XI's first innings of 272 for seven declared and took one for 26 from 11 overs, claiming the wicket that ended Zimbabwe's first innings on Monday at 329 after it had resumed at 328 for nine.

Wells did not bat during the second innings in which the New Zealand team reached 274 for two by early stumps. But New Zealand captain Ross Taylor (54), his test teammate Kane Williamson (52) and squad member Kruger van Vyk (61 not out) made half centuries.

Allrounder Daniel Vettori was 41 not out when the match ended in a draw.
