Kalabagan KC pulls down Victoria SC from top slot; Old DOHS takes solo lead beating Sk Jamal DC

Dhaka, Feb 06 (UNB) - Lowly rated Kalabagan KC pulled down title aspirant Victoria SC from the top slot beating them by three wickets in the 10th round match of the Metropolis Premier Division Cricket League at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur today (Monday).

In the day’s other match, Prime Doleshwar SC earned a five-wicket victory over Biman Bangladesh Airlines at Khan Saheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah.

Earlier on Sunday, Old DOHS SC took a solo lead in the league table beating Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by 25 runs at BKSP ground in Savar while holders Abahani Limited and runners-up Mohammedan SC went down in the title race suffering their 4th defeat in 10 encounters.

Abahani Limited, despite Marshall Ayub’s 112 runs, conceded a three-wicket defeat against Gazi Tank Cricketers at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur while Mohammedan SC conceded six-run losses against lowly Brothers Union at Khan Saheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah on Sunday.

After the 10th round matches, Old DOHS SC top the list securing 16 points,
Victoria SC followed them neck and neck bagging 14 points, Gazi Tank Cricketer were in the 3rd place collecting 12 points while two arch-rivals-- holders Abahani Limited and runners-up Mohammedan SC--along with Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club were in the 4th slot jointly with 10 points each.

Sent into bat first in Mirpur, Victoria SC were all out for 208 runs in 48.5 overs with Pakistani Kamran Sajid making a half century scoring 92-ball 55 runs with the help of two boundaries.

Opener Asif Zakir (44), middle order Sabbir Rahman (33), national opener Tamim Iqbal (18), Kamran Younus (14), Mosharraf Hossain (10) and skipper Shakib Al Hasan (9) were the other notable scorers for Victoria SC.

Shohag Gazi and Shahadat Hossain grabbed two wickets each giving away 39 and 49 runs respectively while Raqibul Hasan, Nizamuddin Ripon and Arafat Salahuddin took one wicket each.

Chasing an easy target, Pakistani batsman Rifatullah scored a century to guide Kalabagan KC to a creditable three-wicket victory scoring the match-winner 209 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 49.3 overs.

One down Rifatullah hammered an unconquered 103 runs off 129 balls featuring eight fours and two sixes.

Abid Ali (30), Nasiruddin Faruk (25), Mohammad Salman (24) and Shohag Gazi (11) were the other major contributors for Kalabagan KC reaching the double figures.

World number one all rounder and famed spinner Shakib Al Hasan claimed three wickets for 37 runs while Mosharraf Hossain took two for 40 runs.

Winning the toss in Fatullah, Biman Bangladesh Airlines scored 227 runs for 8 in stipulated 50 overs with Pakistani recruit Khaled Latif contributing 125-ball 86 runs featuring six fours and one six.

Besides, Fawad Alam (57), Ahsanul Haque (32), Fariduddin Masud (not out 13), Junaid Siddique (12), Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (12) were the other notable batsmen.

Taijul Islam bagged three wickets for 47 runs while Murad Khan took two for 57 runs.

In reply, Prime Doleshwar SC reached their target making 228 runs for loss of five wickets in 48.1 overs with opener Mehdi Maruf scoring 63 runs off 106 balls with three fours and two sixes.

Indian Manvinder Singh (43), Sumon Saha (not out 36), Nadif Chowdhury (28), Kamran Akmal (25) and Shahriar Nafees (18) were the other scorers.

Rezaul Karim captured three wickets for 43 runs while Fariduddin Masud took one for 41 runs.
