
Dhaka, Feb 18 (UNB) - Law Minister Barrister Shafique Ahmed on Saturday said the government considers amending the criminal procedure with a provision for the punishment of those responsible for bringing the witnesses to the dock on a date fixed by the trial court fail to do so.
Inaugurating a training workshop for public prosecutors, titled ‘Prevent Violence against Women’, Shafique asked the public prosecutors to shun the adjournment culture in dealing with cases without any reason for the sake of speedy disposal of cases.
“You’ll have to keep watch on the speedy investigation process of the cases and its proper accomplishment,” the Law Minister told the public prosecutors.
He also asked them to sincerely conduct the cases providing with correct data and information, and put in their best efforts to produce witnesses on scheduled date. “The cases should be disposed of in order to boost people’s confidence in the judiciary,” he added.
The workshop was jointly organised by the Judicial Administration Training Institute (JATI) and International Organisation for Migration (IOM).
Presided over by JATI DG in- charge M Mofizul Islam, the function was addressed, among others, by State Minister for Law advocate Qamrul Islam, Law Secretary Ashish Ranjan Das, IMO officer in -charge Dr Anita A Davies. Nearly a hundred public prosecutors took part in the workshop.
