WELLINGTON, FEB 25 (AP/UNB) - South Africa captain A.B. de Villiers made 106 not out to steer his side to a comfortable six-wicket win over New Zealand in Saturday's opening one-day international.

De Villiers lifted South Africa after it had slumped to 17-2 and 35-3 in reply to New Zealand's moderate total of 253-9, and guided the visitors to victory with 28 balls to spare.

The skipper scored his 106 runs off the exact same number of balls, and shared a 129-run stand with Far Du Plessis, who made an unbeaten 66 from 49 balls.
