Shariatpur, Feb 25 (UNB) - A mentally unstable man allegedly hacked to death his wife and mother-in-law at Sadarali Matbarkandi at BK Nagar in Jajira upazila sometime between Friday midnight and early Saturday.

The dead are: Rashida, 40, wife of Eskandar Matbar of Sadarali Matbar village and her mother Fuljan Begum, 65.

Rubel, son of Rashida and Eskandar, said his mother was staying at his grand father`s house at a neighbouring village on Friday.

Eskandar pressed Fuljan to accompany him to his father`s home to bring Rashida back to his house.

He said, Eskandar along with Fuljan went to his ancestral home to bring Rashida back to his own house on Friday night.

The next morning locals found slaughtered bodies of Fuljan and Rashida lying at a cropland near Eskandar`s house.

Rubel and Eskandar`s other close relatives claimed that Eskandar is a lunatic man and he himself slaughtered Fuljan and Rashida, a claim echoed by the locals.

Police recovered the bodies and sent those to hospital for autopsy.

Eskandar was arrested.
