News - Sagar-Runi murder: Journalists observe token pen-down strike
Dhaka, Feb 27 (UNB) – Journalists observed a countrywide token pen-down strike in all newspapers, news agencies, televisions and online media houses for one hour from 12:00pm today to press for the arrest of the killers of journalist couple Sagar and Runi.

Journalist unions earlier announced the programme from a grand rally in the city. The journalists also wore black badges.

The journalist unions representing the two factions of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ), National Press Club and Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) also announced countrywide mass hunger strike from 10:00am to 4:00pm on March 1 if the killers are not arrested by the given time.

In capital Dhaka, the mass hunger strike will be held at the National Press Club. The unions also demanded trial of all the past killings of journalists in the country.

On February 11, Maasranga TV news editor Sagar Sarwar and his wife, ATN Bangla senior reporter Meherun Runi, were murdered at their West Rajabazar apartment in the city.

Leaders of BFUJ, DUJ and DRU called upon all concerned to make the programme a success.
