
Dhaka, Mar 01 (UNB) - Grameenphone is charging the highest call rate per minute among the cell phone operators in the country, Parliament was told on Thursday.
Responding to a scripted question of Jatiya Party lawmaker Noor-E-Hasna Lily Chowdhury (Women Seat-43), Telecommunication Minister Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju said Grameenphone is now charging Tk 1.02 for off-net calling per minute while Tk 0.80 for on-net calling.
Mentioning the other cell phone operators, he said Banglalink is charging Tk 0.86 per minute for off-net calling and Tk 0.65 for on-net calling; Robi charging Tk 0.89 per minute for off-net calling and Tk 0.40 for on-net calling; and Airtel charging Tk 0.81 for off-net calling and Tk 0.41 for on-net calling per minute.
Country’s first cellular phone company, Citycell is charging Tk 0.82 per minute for off-net calling against Tk 0.39 for on-net calling while state-run Teletalk charging Tk 0.965 for off-net calling and Tk 0.76 for on-net calling.
The minister informed the House that the government fetched Tk 1015.28 crore as revenue in fiscal 2010-11.
