Dhaka, Mar 4 (UNB) - Holders Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club returned to the winning run in the Grameenphone Bangladesh Premier League after three matches beating Dhaka Mohammedan SC Ltd by 2-1 goals in a vital match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here today (Sunday).
Sheikh Jamal DC, which split points with Feni Soccer Club in 1-1 affair, suffered a frustrating 0-3 defeat against mediocre Arambagh KS and conceded 0-1 losses against Rahmatganj MFS in the last three league matches, smartly bounced back upsetting traditional Mohammedan SC.
By virtue of the day’s victory, Sheikh Jamal DC advanced to 4th slot in the league table securing seven points from six matches while Mohammedan SC remained at 8th place with their previous credit of five points from five matches.
Nigerian forward Femi Orunimi and Cameroonian medio Yoko Samnick scored one goal each for Sheikh Jamal DC in the first half while Wahed pulled the margin one back for Mohammedan SC in the 2nd half.
Femi Orunimi put Sheikh Jamal ahead in the 9th minute by a powerful free kick from about 35 yards that kissed the Mohammedan net making fool the custodian Himel (1-0).
Cameroonian midfielder Yoko Samnick doubled the Sheikh Jamal margin in the 22nd minute by a placing shot from top of the small box when a volley shot of defender Yousuf, off a corner of Femi Orunimi, came his way deflecting opponent defender (2-0).
Mohammedan reduced the margin in the 52nd minute as Wahed found the Sheikh Jamal net beating former national custodian Aminul by a grounder, capitalizing on a Yasin pass from top of the box (2-1).
Earlier, Sheikh Jamal’s Nigerian forward Femi Orunimi missed the target narrowly when his attempt hit the Mohammedan crosspiece in the 4th minute and later Nigerian booter Kester Akon headed the rebounder straight to Mohammedan goalie Himel.
Mohammedan’s Nigerian forward Basden Wilcox missed an open net in the 83rd minute as Mehedi Hasan Topu set him free with a nice chip but Wilcox placed the ball over the crosspiece.
