Dhaka, Mar 8 (UNB) - Foreign Minister Dr. Dipu Moni said that Bangladesh is looking forward to having more investment from Singapore.
She made the remarks when the newly appointed non-resident High Commissioner of Singapore to Bangladesh Chan Heng Wing paid a courtesy call on her at her office on Thursday.
Foreign Minister congratulated and welcomed the High Commissioner to Bangladesh. She stated that Bangladesh and Singapore maintain excellent bilateral relations, which are multifaceted.
She mentioned that Singapore is one of the top ranking trading partners and also one of the largest sources of investment for Bangladesh.
She apprised the High Commissioner that Bangladesh is looking forward to having more investment from Singapore.
She reiterated that efforts should be undertaken to reduce the trade imbalance and Singapore can import pharmaceuticals, seafood, ceramics and home textile.
In reply, the High Commissioner informed that he would engage himself to further cement the existing relations between the two countries.
He also informed the Foreign Minister that a new airliner of Singapore namely Tiger Airways is going to launch its operations from tomorrow (Friday) and they will operate three flights a week between Dhaka and Singapore.
Earlier, the High Commissioner presented his credentials to the President and met the acting foreign secretary Mustafa Kamal.
The High Commissioner was accompanied by Darryl Lau, Consul of Singapore in Dhaka, and other officials.
