JOHANNESBURG, Mar 16 (AP/UNB) - South Africa cricket allrounder Rory Kleinveldt has admitted using cannabis after failing a doping test.
Kleinveldt, who has played two Twenty20 games for the Proteas, said on Friday he made "a big mistake" and pleaded guilty to using the drug in a statement released through the South African Cricketers' Association.
The players' body said Kleinveldt failed the doping test in February.
Cannabis is classed as a "specified substance" by the World Anti-Doping Agency meaning, while banned, it's not likely to have performance-enhancing advantages.
SACA said Kleinveldt was provisionally suspended from playing until the outcome of an inquiry.
SACA chief executive Tony Irish said the player was "distraught." Kleinveldt apologized for acting "irresponsibly."
