Chittagong, Mar 25 (UNB) – Department of Environment (DoE) filed a case against 13 people, including three top officials of Korean EPZ, for violating rules.
Abdur Razzak, DoE Director (investigation), filed the case with Karnaphuli thana on Saturday midnight.
Advisor of Korean Export Processing Zone (KEPZ) Brigadier General (retd) Hasan Nasir, General Manager Colonel (retd) Mohammad Shahjahan and Deputy General Manager Abul Kalam Azad are among the accused.
Ten other unidentified people were also made accused in the case.
Shah Alam, Sub-inspector (SI) of Karnaphuli thana, said they were accused of cutting hill, filling up water body, felling trees and violating the condition of certificate of environment department.
Ten bulldozers used for hill cutting were seized during a drive, led by DoE Director (enforcement) Munir Chowdhury, at KEPZ from morning noon on Saturday.
Earlier on January 22, Munir Chowdhury asked the KEPZ authorities to stop hill cutting.
The Saturday’s drive was carried out for continuing hill cutting flouting the order.
DoE said KEPZ violated the approved design of their project while the KEPZ authorities denied the allegation, saying that they are working as per conditions.
