Dhaka, Mar 25 (UNB) - Rebutting the prosecution’s formal charges of crimes against humanity during the Liberation War implicating Ghulam Azam, the principal organiser of Jamaat-e-Islami, the chief defence counsel at the International Crimes Tribunal termed those surmises.
Referring to the criminal allegations by the prosecution against the accused, Barrister Abdur Razzaq argued that the role Ghulam Azam had played by delivering speeches at different places during 1971 do not prove his offence of abetment or conspiracy to commit such crimes as it requires sufficient evidence in this regard.
About the 1971 role by Ghulam Azam in collaboration with the Pakistan occupation army that had perpetrated crimes against humanity like killing, arson, rape, genocide and other heinous crimes with having control over the auxiliary forces like Razakar, Al Badr and Al Shams, criminal outfits as alleged by the prosecution, the defence counsel denied the charges against his client saying the army had operational, administrative and static control over the auxiliary forces.
The defence law-point argument on charge hearing against Ghulam Azam, which remained inconclusive, will resume on Tuesday.
