Independence Day celebrated in Chandpur

News - Independence Day celebrated in Chandpur
Chandpur, Mar 27 (UNB) – Independence and National Day was celebrated in the district with call for speedy trial of the war crimes accused.

The day began with 31 gunshots fired into the skies from near the Independence Memorial Monument “Angiker” beside Muktijoddha Sarak in the town at zero hours.

Floral wreaths were placed at the altar of the Angiker by Chandpur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Priotosh Saha on behalf of the Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni, MP, followed by the Police Super Muhammad Shahidullah Chowdhury, Zila Parishad Chief Executive Officer Saodagar Mustafizur Rahman, sadar upazila UNO Shahinur Shahin Khan.  

The district, sadar upazila and the town units Awami League, BNP, Chandpur Press Club members, Chandpur Government College, Government Mohila College, Chandpur Puran Bazar University College and Government Schools  and other socio-cultural and economic organizations also placed floral wreaths there one after another.

The DC and SP took salutes from the participants in parades by freedom fighters (FF), police, Ansar and VDP, Rover scouts units, various organizations and students of different educational institutions held at the local stadium.

Attractive physical displays showed by the students of 95 schools, orphanages and other organizations followed the parades.

A swimming competition was held in Dakatia River t 11 a.m. followed by a reception accorded to the FFs. Then a friendly football match was played at Chandpur Stadium and Puran Bazar. Women`s sports were organized at Chandpur Government Mohila College and a discussion meeting was held in the afternoon at the Shilpakala Academy.

Speakers called for speedy trial of the war crimes accused.

Improved foods were served at hospitals, students` hostels, government hospitals, jails and government orphanages.

Special prayers were offered in the mosques, temples and churches seeking divine blessings for the progress and prosperity of Bangladesh.

Similar programmes were also arranged all upazila headquarters.

On the occasion, various government and non-government organisations were discerningly decorated and illuminated.
