News - Real businesspeople to get multiple visas: Singapore Consul
Chittagong, Apr 2 (UNB) - The real businesspeople of Chittagong will get multiple visas for visiting Singapore to utilise business potentials, Consul of Singapore in Dhaka Darryl Lau Kai Mun said here on Monday.

He expressed keen interest to work together in order to utilise the potentials of both sides through regional cooperation.

The diplomat came up with the comment during a meeting with the board of directors of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) at the CCCI office.

Darryl Lau credited Chittagong for the outstanding contributions to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) and said, “It’s the commercial city of the country holding a very important geographical location.”

He found many similarities between Singapore and Chittagong, especially sea-port and huge shipping line businesses, which are making both the countries economically benefited.

CCCI president Murshed Murad Ibrahim, senior vice president Mahbubul Alam, vice president M Nurun Newaz Salim, and directors MA Salam, Mahfuzul Hoque Shah, SM Mahbubul Islam, Asheek Bhuiyan, M Emdadul Hoque Chowdhury, Jahirul Islam Chowdhury, M Shahin Alam, M Jahurul Alam, Morshed Arif Chowdhury, Syed Jamal Ahmed, Absar Hasan Chowdhury and Omar Faruque were present.

Murshed Murad Ibrahim said Singapore is a very important development partner of Bangladesh. “Singapore is the ninth investor in Bangladesh transacting US$ 1.7 billion business bilaterally.”

He urged the Consul to take proper steps for importing RMG, frozen foods, vegetables, ceramic, leather and jute goods from Bangladesh.

The CCCI president also sought Singaporean investment in infrastructural development including power, gas, ICT, tourism and port.

Mahbubul Alam sought initiatives to introduce Chittagong-Kolkata-Singapore airway to strengthen bilateral relations.
