Dhaka, Apr 02 (UNB) - Holders Scholastica School made a flying start in the girls group of the Polar Ice Cream 20th School Handball Tournament beating Dhanmondi Quamrunnessa Govt Girls’ High School by 15-1 goals in the opening match at the Shaheed (Capt) Mansoor Ali National Handball Stadium on Monday.
The first half score was 10-0.
Earlier, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid inaugurated the six-day meet at a simple ceremony this (Monday) afternoon.
Chief Operating Officer of the meet’s sponsor Dhaka Ice Cream Industries Limited Towfiqur Rahman was present as special guest at the function, Presided over by Bangladesh Handball Federation (BHF) president AKM Nurul Fazal Bulbul the function was also attended by BHF general secretary Asaduzzaman Kohinoor.
In the day’s other girls section matches, Viqarunnisa Noon School & College crushed Siddeshwari Girls’ High School by 20-0 goals after leading the first half by 14-0 goals while Agrani Girls’ High School outplayed Heed International by 6-0 goals after dominating the first session by 5-0 goals.
In the boys group, holders Narinda Govt. High School defeated Willes Little Flowers School by 24-14 goals after dominating the first half by 11-6 goals.
BAF Shaheen School & College earned a 14-10 goals victory over Motijheel Govt. Boys’ High School. The match was locked in 6-6 goals during the first half.
A total of 13 teams, split into four groups, will take part in the boys groups while 12 teams divided in four groups take part in the girls section of the competition.
Participating teams (Boys Group) :
Group A - Narinda Govt. High, Summer Field and Willes Little Flowers School;
Group B - Residential Model School & College, Scholastica School and Wari High School;
Group C - BAF Shaheen School & College, Motijheel Govt Boys’ High School, St Gregory’s High School and Heed International; and
Group D - Play Pen, Dhanmondi Tutorial and Banani Bidya Niketan.

Group B - Sunny Dale, Agrani Bank High School and Heed International;
