News - Businesses for strengthening trade tie with India
Dhaka, Apr 2 (UNB) – President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) AK Azad on Monday demanded simplification of Indian visa process for Bangladeshi businesses to strengthen business ties with the two next-door neighbors.

The apex trade body head also laid emphasis on joint investment and sending trade delegation to India for trade expansion between the two countries.

Azad also put emphasis on improving services of the land ports, including Benapole-Petropole.

He was speaking at a ‘buyers-sellers meeting’ at the auditorium of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI).

The DCCI and Chemical and Allied Products Export Promotion Council (CAPEXIL), India jointly arranged the meeting.

DCCI president Asif Ibrahim, members of Indian trade delegation led by CR Bhattacharjee, first secretary (commercial), Indian High Commission in Dhaka B.Shyam, were, among others, present.

Speaking on the occasion, Asif Ibrahim said trade relations between the two countries could not reach the desired-level despite Bangladeshi products’ duty-free access to Indian market. He held non-tariff barriers and some policies responsible behind that.

He urged the Indian investors to come up with larger scale investment in Bangladesh and assured them of providing all supports from the DCCI.

The DCCI directors and former president and vice presidents also took part in open discussions and urged the Indian investors to invest in shipbuilding, light engineering, infrastructure and printing industry.
