News - Biman staff to go on 48-hour strike from April 16

Dhaka, Apr 3 (UNB) - Biman staff will go on a 48-hour strike from April 16 demanding immediate dissolution of the current Board of Directors of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

Moshiqur Rahman, convener of Biman Bachao Oikya Parishad, announced the programme from a rally in front of Balaka, Biman’s head office, at about 11 am.

Biman crew, staff, leaders of Bangladesh Biman Officers’ Association, Biman Workers’ Union, Bangladesh Air Service Pilot Association took part in the meeting.

They staged demonstrations demanding dissolution of the current board of directors and formation of a new one with more experienced and efficient people.

Briefing the media after a meeting with Indian High Commissioner Pankaj Sen, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Faruk Khan said an efficient board of directors is required for saving Biman from its staggering losses.

The minister said he requested the Indian envoy to remove the difficulties in visa processing as many people go to India every day for treatment, education and business purposes.
