Dhaka, Apr 4 (UNB) - A court here on Wednesday sentenced four youths to life term imprisonment for violating a girl about 11 years back.
The lifers are Abdul Malek, son of Hashem Ali and Sajib, son of Sheikh Babar Ali of Algichar village, M Sohel, son of Hasmat and Motiur Rahman Mati, son of Forman Ali of Balmondochar village under Nawabganj thana in the capital.
The court also fined them Tk 1 lakh each, in default, to suffer one year more RI. All the convicts are on the run since filing of the case.
According to the prosecution, Sajib picked up Asma Khatun, 14, who worked as a maidservant at the house of one Abdul Jalil of the village, at gunpoint on October 2, 2001.
Later, he took her to an abandoned house of the village and raped her along with his three cohorts one after another.
Asma filed a case in this connection with the local police station.
After examining the records and seven witnesses, M Arifur Rahman, judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4, pronounced the verdict.
The court also acquitted another accused, Taslim, as the allegation brought against him could not be proved.
