
Dhaka, Apr 4 (UNB) - Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday assured the Saudi probe team that the killers of Saudi embassy official Khalaf Al Ali must be tracked down after proper investigation.
The premier gave the assurance when an eight-member Saudi inquiry team comprising mid-ranking officials of the Interior and the Foreign Ministries of Saudi Arabia met her at Ganobhaban in the afternoon.
Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Abdullah Bin Naser Al-Busairi was present.
The Prime Minister urged the Saudi government to extend their cooperation with necessary expertise and information so that the current investigation could be accomplished properly. “The Home Ministry is vigil about the matter, and I’m also enquiring about it,” she added.
PM’s Deputy Press Secretary Bijan Lal Dev briefed reporters after the meeting.
Saudi Ambassador Busairi said this incident would neither affect nor influence the relationship between the two countries.
“Because, our relationship is historic, deep and also based on social, cultural and religious values,” added the Ambassador.
Busairi said his country has trust in the investigation process being carried out by the Bangladesh investigators.
The Saudi expert team arrived here on Tuesday to assist the local detectives in their investigation into the killing of Khalaf, Head of Citizens' Affairs at the Saudi Embassy in Dhaka.
He was shot dead by gunmen near his house at Gulshan 2 on March 6.
Ambassador at-Large M Ziauddin, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Sheikh Md Wahid Uz Zaman and Special Assistant to Prime Minister Abdus Sobhan Golap were present.
Earlier, British MP Richard Fuller met the Prime Minister at the same venue.
