Khulna Addl Police Super, SI injured in attack by robbers

Khulna, Apr 04 (UNB) - An ASP (Additional Superintendent of Police) and a sub-inspector suffered bullet wounds as members of a notorious robbers` gang opened fired on cops in Fultala on Tuesday night.

Police arrested gang leader Gazi Dacoit and Mithu Sheikh along with two foreign-made pistols and ammo.

Being informed that the bandits` gang was preparing to commit robbery a team of plain-clothes police, led by ASP Md Nasirul Islam and SI Mukta Roy Chowdhury of Fultala Police Station, conducted a drive at Nadir Ghat at Machhbazar in Fultalabazar area at 10 pm.

Sensing police presence, the bandits tried to escape by opening fire on cops leaving the ASP and the SI severely injured by bullets.

Police retaliated and managed to capture Mithu Sheikh, 25, along with a foreign pistol, a bullet and a magazine from the spot. Acting on his confessional statements, police also arrested Gazi Dacoit (Habib Gazi) along with a foreign pistol, one bullet and a magazine a little while later from the area.

However, the rest of the gangsters managed to escape.  The injured were admitted to Khulna Police Lines Hospital.
