News - Barua swipes at ‘so-called’ civil society
Dhaka, Apr 5 (UNB) - Bangladesher Samyabadi Dal general secretary Dilip Barua on Thursday said the ‘so-called’ civil society could not do anything good in the past and is unlikely to be able to do in the future, too.

“The so-called civil society couldn’t accomplish anything good in the past because they have no contact with the mass people, they rather have relations with foreign friends,” he told a rally referring to regular TV talk-shows that criticise the government.

“When we watch talk-shows on TVs that gives an impression that there had been no development during the present tenure of the government,” Barua, also Industries Minister, said.

Samyabadi Dal arranged the rally at the Mohanagar Natyamancha in the city demanding quick trial of war criminals.

Barua said conspiracy was there from the very beginning to overthrow the elected 14-party grand alliance government led by Sheikh Hasina. “The dream of power capture unconstitutionally will remain a distant dream.”

He alleged that the fundamentalists had been hatching conspiracies to foil the trial of war crimes against humanity. “All the left-leaning democratic forces will have to be united to thwart the conspiracy.”

Leaders of the Samyabadi Dal Lutfar Rahman, Dhiren Singh, Prof Prodyut Kumar Foni, Saiful Islam, Shahana Chinu, adv Biren Saha, Harun Chowdhury, Delwar Hossain and Kanak Barua, among others, spoke on the occasion.
