LONDON, Apr 10 (AP/UNB) - British Prime Minister David Cameron will visit Myanmar on Friday, becoming the first leader of a major western country to visit the nation since the recent relaxation of military rule, a published report said Tuesday.

Cameron's office declined to comment on the report in the Financial Times, saying it never confirms the prime minister's travel plans in advance.

The reported follows parliamentary by-elections on April 1 in which Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy party won 43 or the 44 seats it contested.

Cameron is currently on a tour of Asia, including stops in Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
The Financial Times, which attributed its reported to officials in Myanmar, said Cameron is expect to visit the country's new capital, Naypyidaw, to meet President Thein Sein, and meet Suu Kyi in Rangoon.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visited Myanmar in December, and British Foreign Secretary William Hague visited in January.
