Dhaka, Apr 10 (UNB) - Biman staff on Tuesday withdrew their 48-hour strike from April 16 following a fruitful discussion with the Civil Aviation Minister.
They had called the strike on April 3 demanding immediate dissolution of the current Board of Directors of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
After a meeting with Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Faruq Khan, Moshiqur Rahman, convener of Biman Bachao Oikya Parishad, told journalists that they have withdrawn the strike following an assurance by the minister to fulfill their demand.
Seven trade unions of Biman demanded that Biman's Chairman and members of Biman's board of directors resign immediately taking the liability of what they claimed Tk 1,000 crore loss that the national flag carrier incurred due to inefficiency of the current board.
Briefing the media after the meeting with Biman Bachao Oikya Parishad, Faruk Khan said the government will do whatever necessary for saving Biman. “The crisis would be resolved after discussing the issue at the higher level of the government,” he said.
