News - APS Faruque suspended: Suranjit
Dhaka, Apr 11 (UNB) - Railways Minister Suranjit Sengupta’s assistant private secretary (APS) Omar Faruque Talukdar has been suspended as an inquiry committee is investigating the source of Tk 70 lakh he was carrying in a car on Monday night.

Sengupta told UNB this (Wednesday) evening that Omar Faruque has been suspended in connection with the Monday’s incident.

The Railways Ministry has constituted two inquiry committees - one to investigate the involvement of Railway (Eastern Zone) general manager Yusuf Ali Mridha with the money and another to investigate into Faruq’s link with the money.

The Minister said actions would be taken against the two on the basis of the inquiry reports.

Intelligence sources said Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members detained Omar Faruque and Railway (East) GM Yusuf Ali Mridha after a car carrying them entered the BGB Headquarters at Peelkhana in the city about 11:30 pm on Monday.

Faruque and Yusuf were allegedly carrying illegal money of Tk 70 lakh in the car.
