Stocks extend gains with higher turnover

News - Stocks extend gains with higher turnover
Dhaka, Apr 15 (UNB) - Stocks at both the bourses -- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) -- extended gains on Sunday with the premier bourse recording over Tk 1201 crore turnover, the highest since July 31.

The DSE benchmark general index, DGEN, gained 120.56 points or 2.25 percent to close at 5464.16 after the end of day's trading. Of the issues traded at the DSE, 157 advanced, 99 declined and 8 remained unchanged.

The DSE tracking index closed at 5343.59 showing a gain of 116.98 points or 2.23 percent on Thursday.

Similarly, the CSE benchmark index, CSCX, also gained 193.87 points to close at 10203.06. Of the issues traded at the CSE, 123 advanced, 61 suffered losses and 13 remained unchanged.

The CSE index showed a gain of 242.81 points to close at 10020.81 on Thursday.

The DSE turnover exceeded Tk 1118 crore or Tk 12018.54 million today (Sunday), which was Tk 1078 crore on Thursday while Tk 1341 crore on July 31 and Tk 1051 crore on November 23. The Chittagong bourse turnover stood at Tk 97.29 crore today.

On Wednesday, both the bourses closed with marginal gains despite a bullish trend at the beginning.

On Monday, the two bourses entered the negative territory after fluctuations, losing almost what they gained on Sunday but bounced back strongly on Tuesday.
