Dinajpur, Apr 18 (UNB) – The casual workers of Baropukuria thermal power plant threatened to block roads and rail routes after April 22 if their demand was not met by the time.
They will enforce the programme for seven days.
They announced the programme from a rally near the main gate of the plant at 1pm to press their demand for regularization of their jobs.
Workers-Employees Union president Nuruzzaman and general secretary M Shakhawat Hossain, among others, spoke at the rally.
Earlier, around 243 temporary workers of 250-megawatt coal based plant staged demonstration.
The speakers said jobs of 243 casual workers and employees were not regularized in the last nine months though Power Development Board appointed some officials few days ago.
The workers are working risking their lives since the beginning of the project.
They would observe their programme if their demand was not met by April 22, Nuruzzaman said.
When contacted, chief engineer of the plant Manzurul Haque said he came to know about the programme of the workers.
“I’ve nothing to do. This is the matter of decision of the Power Development Board,” he said.
