News - Govt clarifies its position about Ilias’ disappearance
Dhaka, Apr 23 (UNB) – The government has said it has taken a well-thought out and effective steps to trace missing BNP’s former MP Ilias Ali.

In a press note issued on Monday night, the government clarified its position about the disappearance of Ilias Ali and also requested a section of media to refrain from broadcasting and publishing false, misleading news about Ilias Ali’s disappearance.

The press note said the members of law-enforcing agencies have put in place all-out efforts to trace the whereabouts of BNP leader Ilias Ali after reviewing and analysing the information about his disappearance on the night of Apr 17.

Ilias Ali`s wife has extended her assistance to the law-enforcing agencies to trace her husband, the press note said.

``But it has been noticed that instead of assisting the government in its sincere efforts to trace Ilias Ali, the main opposition party is making provocative and objectionable statements about his disappearance and calling nonstop hartal with an ulterior motive to provoke  people in order to cause immense sufferings to them,`` it said.

Lamenting the `objectionable` reports published in a section of the press, it said such fabricated, baseless reports about the disappearance of Ilias is being made with an aim to create confusion among people about the matter and misguide them with an ulterior motive to hinder efforts to track down/rescue the victim.

It urged all concerned to refrain from making such false, frustrating comments about Ilias Ali`s disappearance and also from damaging property and causing public sufferings by enforcing hartal.
