
Dhaka, Apr 24 (UNB) - A Dhaka court on Tuesday granted bail to BNP vice- chairperson Selima Rahman and two others.
Seven other BNP leaders and activists who were arrested along with Selima were denied bail and sent to jail.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Abdul Qader passed the order turning down the remand prayer of police.
Police detained 10 leaders and activists of the main opposition BNP, including its vice-chairman Selima Rahman, from the city’s Gulshan area on Monday morning.
A team of Gulshan Police Station picked up the BNP leaders and activists as they tried to bring out a procession from Gulshan-1 in support of Monday’s hartal.
Two others who secured bail are Advocate Sheuli and Advocate Diba Khan.
The BNP leaders and activists who were denied bail are Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal city unit president Sultana Ahmed, ex-MP Sanjida Akther, Amena Khatun, Sadija Haq, Momtaj Begum, Jabeda Akther and Shirin.
