
Dhaka, Apr 25 (UNB) - Stocks at the country’s both bourses -- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) -- on Wednesday extended losses despite showing an uptrend in the beginning.
Both the bourses saw a significant fall in turnover today, the first trading day after the three-day countrywide shutdown enforced by the opposition parties.
DGEN, the benchmark index of the DSE, closed at 5248.62, registering a fall of 108.37 points or 2.02 percent today.
The bourse registered a fall of 0.58 percent or 31.25 points on Tuesday but showed a gain of 0.39 percent or 21.07 points on Monday.
On Sunday, the premier bourse tracking index closed at 5367.19 showing 0.33 or 0.005 percent fall after experiencing fluctuations in share prices throughout the day. The key index lost 112.65 points or 2.05 percent on Thursday.
Of the issues traded at the DSE, only 44 advanced, 208 declined and 14 remained unchanged.
The single-day turnover of the DSE came down to Tk 755 crore as against Tk 874 crore and Tk 911 crore recorded on Tuesday and Monday respectively.
Meanwhile, the CSE benchmark index, CSCX, lost over 199 points to close at 9937.63. The index gained 177 points on Monday but lost over 45 points on Tuesday.
Of the issues traded at the CSE, only 29 advanced, 157 suffered losses and 6 remained unchanged.
The Chittagong bourse turnover declined to Tk 66.16 crore as against Tk 71.81 crore and Tk 70.38 crore recorded on Tuesday and Monday respectively.
