Dhaka, Apr 26 (UNB) – Ruling Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam on Thursday urged the opposition BNP to assist the government in finding out Ilias Ali instead of making the people hostage by enforcing hartal.
 
Making the plea during a press conference at the AL president’s Dhanmondi office, he said the mass people are not involved with the disappearance of Ilias Ali, organizing secretary of the opposition BNP.  “Please free them (people) from sufferings,” Ashraf requested BNP.         
 
He said the government wants to rescue Ilias alive and has been working hard to that end. “We never believe in the politics of killing.”
 
Referring to the Prime Minister’s meeting with high ups of the law enforcing agencies, the AL general secretary said that the Prime Minister has directed them to rescue Ilias Ali alive.   
 
“There is no scope to do politics with the disappearance of Ilias”, he said and hoped that he (Ilias) will return alive.
 
In this regard, Ashraf mentioned that the government thought that they would get cooperation from all, but did not get anything except some rumors.

“Only the wife of Ilias is helping the government as she really wanted to rescue her husband,” he said adding that it is the responsibility of the government to rescue him.
 
Expressing his regret, the AL general secretary said they thought that they would get cooperation at least from the opposition leader, but did not get it.
