Dhaka, Apr 26 (UNB) -The High Court on Thursday stayed for four weeks the operation of all election activities of the Bangladesh Bar Council, a statutory body regulating the lawyers, slated for May 28.
Passing the interim order after preliminary hearing on a writ petition, an HC division bench comprising Justice Farid Ahmed and Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif also issued rule asking the Bar Council chairman, vice-chairman and secretary to explain why the announced election schedule for holding the Bar Council polls on the basis of flawed voter list should not be declared illegal.
Advocate M Saleh Uddin along with three other lawyers filed the writ petition.
Advocate MI Farooqi appeared for the writ petitioners while Additional Attorney General MK Rahman for the respondents.
