Editors protest death threat to Gulam Sarwar

Dhaka, Apr 26 (UNB) – Editors of different national dailies of the country on Thursday denounced the death threat to Samakal Editor Gulam Sarwar.

In a statement, the editors voiced deep concern over the death threat and said such incident is an obstacle to freedom of expression.

They also demanded the government find out the criminals and give them exemplary punishment.

The signatories to the statement are: Reazuddin Ahmed of The News Today, Matiur Rahman of Prothom Alo, Anwar Hossain Manju of Dainik Ittefaq, Shaymol Dutta of Bhorer Kagoj, Mozammel Haque of Korotoa, MA Malek of Dainik Azadi, Mahbubul Alam of The Independent, Mahfuz Anam of The Daily Star, Matiur Rahman Chowdhury of Manabzamin, AMM Bahauddin of Inqilab, Moazzem Hossain of the Financial Express, Taslim Uddin Chowdhury of Purbokon and Jugantor executive editor Saiful Alam.

On Monday, Samakal editor Gulam Sarwar filed a general diary with the local police station seeking security of his life after unknown criminals threatened to kill him over phone.
