Dhaka, Apr 26 (UNB) - BNP on Thursday asked the government to step down if it fails to return missing BNP organizing secretary and ex-MP M Ilias Ali.
The demand came from a demonstration in front of BNP central office organized by Dhaka City BNP as part of the countrywide demonstration demanding safe handover of Ilias Ali and his driver to their families by Saturday.
BNP standing committee member Barrister Maudud Ahmed said they believed that Ilias was made disappeared by “intelligence agency at the behest of the government.”
He said the government will have to resign if it fails to return Ilias by Saturday.
Referring to ruling Awami League general secretary Syed Asraful Islam’s remarks that it is possible to rescue Ilias alive, BNP standing committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said it proves that Ilias was forced to disappear by the government order.
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the current movement of BNP on Ilias issue will be intensified from Sunday if he is not returned by Saturday.
Presided over by Dhaka city BNP convenor Sadeque Hossain Khoka, the demonstration was also addressed, among others, by BNP leaders Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah and Nazrul Islam Khan, Jamaat leader Syed Abdullah M Taher and IOJ secretary general Abdul Latif Nezami and other leaders of BNP-led 18-party alliance.
