LONDON, APR 28 (AP/UNB) - Northern Ireland police say they discovered two bombs in separate security alerts, forcing dozens of people to be evacuated from their homes.
Officers said Saturday that about 80 people had to leave their properties in the Ballygomartin Road area of north Belfast after a device was discovered Friday under a parked car.
Chief Inspector Ian Campbell says army bomb experts defused the bomb and that he believes dissident Irish nationalist terrorists were to blame.
Police also confirm that a second device had been found late Thursday in the town of Newry, close to the Irish border. It was also defused.
Chief Superintendent George Clarke says police were "determined to protect communities from these threats."
