Keraniganj, Apr 29 (UNB) – In a shocking incident, a 40 days old girl has been strangulated to death allegedly by her father at Imambari village under Dakkhin Keraniganj thana.

The deceased was identified as Sohagi, daughter of Tipu of the village.

Police said Jahida Begum, the wife of Tipu, has given birth to three daughters one after another since their marriage.

Tipu who wanted her wife to give birth to a son could not be pleased when Sohagi was born 40 days ago.

Since the birth of the little girl, Tipu used to lock into altercations with Jahida.

In the wee small hours of Sunday, Jahida noticed that her daughter was no more.

Hearing her screaming, local people rushed in and informed police.

Later, the law enforcers recovered the body in the morning and sent it to Mitford Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Examining prima facie evidence, police said the minor girl was strangled sometime at night.

Tipu went into hiding just after the incident.

Jahida filed a murder case against Tipu.
