News - BNP, allies to demonstrate across country Wednesday
Dhaka, Apr 30 (UNB) - The BNP-led 18-party alliance will demonstrate across the country on Wednesday protesting the filing of ‘false’ cases against their leaders and activists, including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and demanding the return of missing BNP leader Ilias Ali.

BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, on behalf of the 18-party alliance, announced the fresh spell of agitation programme at a press conference at the BNP central office at about 5:30 pm.

The press conference was held following the alliance’s two days of countrywide dawn-to-dusk general strikes on Sunday and Monday demanding that BNB organising secretary Ilias Ali and his car driver be returned to their families unharmed.

Ilias Ali and his driver Ansar remained missing since April 17 midnight from the capital. The BNP blamed the ruling party men and securities agencies for their mysterious disappearances. But the government denies the allegation.

Rizvi said Wednesday’s demonstrations will be held in cities and district headquarters across the country.

He said the next course of programme will be declared from Wednesday’s demonstration.

The BNP joint secretary general said a good number of leaders and workers of the opposition were arrested and injured across the country during the last two days’ hartal.

He strongly condemned the filing of ‘false’ cases against national leaders, including BNP leaders Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, MK Anwar, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy,  Sadeque Hossain Khoka, Amanullah Aman, Fazlul Huq Milon, Nazimuddin Alam, Abdus Salam, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie, Moazzem Hossain Alal,  Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, Sultan Salahuddin Tuku and Amirul Islam Alim, LDP president Col (retd) Oli Ahmed, BJP chairman Andalib Rahman Partho and JAGPA president Shafiul Alam Prodhan.

Rizvi warned that it is not possible to stop the ongoing movement against the government by fling “false” cases. “It’ll rater intensify.”
