Dhaka, Apr 30 (UNB) - BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi was arrested by plainclothes police in the city’s Kakrail area on Monday night.

BNP chairperson’s press wing member Shamsuddin Didar told UNB over phone that DB police intercepted Ruhul Kabir Rizvi’s car at Kakrail and picked him up around 8:15 pm on his way back home from the party’s Nayapaltan central office.

DB sources said Rizvi was shown arrested in a case filed with Shahbagh Police Station in connection with Sunday’s bomb blasts at the Secretariat during the hartal hours.

The case was filed on Sunday night against 28 named leaders and activists of the BNP-led 18-party alliance and some unnamed people.

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, party leaders Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, Hannan Shah, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Amanullah Aman, Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal President Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal President Sultan Salauddin Tuku and Liberal Democratic Party chief Col (retd) Oli Ahmad are among the accused.
