Dhaka, Apr 30 (UNB) – Famed national footballer cum renowned businessman Abdus Salam Murshedi was re-elected as senior vice-president of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) for next four years polling highest 60 votes in BFF election held at the BFF House today (Monday).
His nearest rival and former BFF member Golam Rabbani Helal got 28 votes, Nurul Alam Chowdhury 23 votes, Ashrafuddin Ahmed Chunnu six votes and Mushtaqur Rahman four votes.
In an immediate reaction, Salam Murshedi, thanked almighty Allah and the BFF delegates for re-electing him.
He said, “I’m very happy to sweep the election in a tough challenge, thanks to almighty Allah and BFF delegates for electing me again.”
“We’re ready to face all kinds of challenges in future under the leadership of Kazi Salahuddin,” he added.
“We’ll try our best to regain the past glory of football reviving football league in the district level, school and academy football involving DFA and club representatives,” he further said.
Former national captain cum official of new look Team BJMC Arif Khan Joy, Feni Soocer Club booter and son of renowned businessman Abdul Awal Mintu, Tabith M Awal were elected new vice presidents of BFF shocking two former vice-presidents Manjur Hossain Malu and Shawkat Ali Khan Jahangir.
In the posts four vice presidents, Kazi Nabil Ahmed of Abahani Limited was elected securing highest 76 votes, Tabith M Awal got 2nd highest 74 votes, Arif khan Joy polled 70 votes and former BFF vice president cum national booter Badal Roy got 61 votes.
Among the losing VP candidates, Mohiuddin Ahmed Mahi got 59 votes, Shawkat Ali Khan Jahangir polled 54, Manjur Hossain Malu got 46 votes, Khurshed Alam Babul and Syed Rumman Wali Bin Sabbir got 22 votes each.
A total of 121 BFF councilors, out of 122, cast their votes in the day’s BFF election except the Beanibazar SC councilor M Shariful Alam, who earlier informed that he was abroad.
Earlier, prior to the election process, BFF president Kazi Mohammad Salahuddin was declared president of Bangladesh Football Federation unopposed for the next four years.
Mezbahuddin Ahmed, chief election commissioner of BFF, declared Kazi Salahuddin as BFF boss unopposed as his rival and former BFF general secretary Abdur Rahim withdrew his candidature.
Abdur Rahim, a councilor of Dhaka DFA, informed the FIFA official cum BFF election observer Manilal Fernando and the fellow councilors that he was no more a president candidate and he had voluntarily withdrew his candidature.
Finally, BFF congress approved it today (Monday) to declare Salahuddin as BFF president unopposed, accepting the withdrawal of Abdur Rahim’s candidature.
