
Dhaka, May 1 (UNB) - Two courts here on Tuesday fixed May 3 for hearing the remand prayers for BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in two cases filed in connection with violence during hartal.
Rizvi was arrested in the capital's Kakrail area on Monday night.
Of the two cases, one was filed with Tejgaon Police Station while another with Shahbag Police Station.
Sub-Inspector of Shahbag Police Station Biplob Kishor Shil, also the investigation officer of the case, produced BNP's Joint Secretary General Rizvi before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in the afternoon and sought a 10-day remand for him in the case filed for hurling bombs at the Secretariat during Sunday’s hartal.
After hearing the prayer, Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Hasibul Haque fixed May 3 as the next date for hearing.
Meanwhile, another court of Metropolitan Magistrate Md Erfanullah fixed the same date for hearing a five-day remand prayer for Rizvi in the case filed for torching vehicle near the Prime Minister’s Office.
A case was filed with Tejgaon Police Station against 38 leaders and activists of the main opposition BNP, including Rizvi, on Sunday night in connection with the torching of the vehicle.
Another case was filed with Shahbagh Police Station in connection with the bomb blasts near the Home Ministry at the Secretariat where 28 named leaders and activists of the BNP-led 18-party alliance and some unnamed people were made the accused. Rizvi was also among the accused.
Rizvi was arrested in the capital's Kakrail area on Monday night.
