News - BNP blames govt for bomb blasts at Secretariat
Dhaka, May 1 (UNB) – The main opposition BNP on Tuesday blamed the government for Sunday’s bomb explosions at the Bangladesh Secretariat saying that it resorted to the ill-tactics to save it from public wraths.

“The bomb-attack drama was staged at the Secretariat to implement the government’s blueprint,” BNP standing committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan told a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office at 5:45 pm.

In his written statement, Dr Moyeen said the truth will have to be unearthed how the bombs were hurled at a sensitive and important place which always remains under the security blanket.
“It’s the responsibility of the government to unfold the truth.”

Dr Moyeen said, “The people of Bangladesh are very much conscious. They understand who have done this.”

Replying to a question about the whereabouts of the BNP acting secretary general, Moyeen Khan said the government has got scared with the current anti-government movement led by BNP. “Instead of facing the situation politically, the government is abusing power to annihilate its political opponents,” he said.

Asked about the meeting of Ilias Ali’s wife with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday, he said it is the responsibility of the government to ensure the security of people.

The BNP standing committee member strongly protested and condemned the arrest of party’s joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and demanded his immediate unconditional release.

“After assuming power, the Awami League government has unleashed a series of killings, enforced disappearances and abductions apart from making arrests and filing false cases to annihilate the opposition leaders and workers, particularly those of BNP,” he said.

As part of that, the Awami League government has filed conspiratorial cases against BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhru Islam Alamgir and other national leaders.

He said the ugly face of the government has exposed with the arrest of Rizvi on Monday night.

Dr Moyeen also protested the baton charge on and the arrest of over 25 leaders and workers when Rizvi was produced before a Dhaka court today.
