Dhaka, May 2 (UNB) - Communications Minister Obaidul Quader said the repair works on the risky Meghna Bridge and Meghna-Gomoti Bridge on Dhaka-Chittagong highway will begin within next 15 days.
Talking to journalists, after a meeting at his ministry on Wednesday, the minister hoped that the works will be completed within this year and the repair cost will be around Tk 180 crore.
Earlier a three-member committee, led by BUET teacher Dr. Abdul Matin, was formed for giving suggesting on different matters, including the repair works. The committee has already submitted its report.
The minister said that army was asked to carry out the works. If they refuse, the works will be done by the Roads and Highways Department, he added.
The meeting was told that the very important two bridges remained lying in vulnerable condition for the last 11 years.
