AL leader among 2 killed by lightning strike

Satkhira, May 2 (UNB) – Two people, including an Awami League leader, were killed being struck by lightning during   a nor`wester that swept 10 villages in Tala upazila on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Nitai Mondol, 50, AL   leader of Shonabadhol village ward unit and also farmer, and Probhash Mondol, 40, farmer of Gadaipur village in Ashashuni upazila.

Local sources said Nitai and Prabhash Mondol met the tragic end of their lives while harvesting paddy at Sonabadhol beel at Kheshra union in the afternoon.

The five-minute storm lashed Kheshra, Hariharnagar, Sahajatpur, Malopara, Salikha Gucchagram, Jalalpur, Goutamkati, Satpakia, Srimantakati and Shuvankarkati villages and also damaged 50 thatched houses, 10 educational institutions, eight mosques and temples and standing boro crops.
