
Dhaka, May 3 (UNB) – Stocks at both the bourses - Dhaka and Chittagong – on Thursday entered the negative territory despite showing a rising trend at the beginning.
Both the bourses showed gains in the last two trading days – Monday and Wednesday. The trading remained closed on Tuesday due to May Day.
The DGEN, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), closed at 5161.22 showing a decline of 37.50 points or 0.72 percent after the end of the day’s trading. The premier bourse gained 99.82 points or 1.95 percent and 87.66 points or 1.74 percent respectively on Wednesday and Monday.
Of the issues traded at the DSE, 77 advanced, 178 declined and 13 remained unchanged.
The premier bourse turnover came down to Tk 435 crore today against Tk 499 crore and Tk 448 crore recorded respectively on Wednesday and Monday. The turnover was Tk 430 crore on Sunday while it was Tk 1,201 crore on April 15.
The port city bourse turnover also declined to Tk 41.01 crore against Tk 49.92 crore and Tk 50.63 crore recorded respectively Wednesday and Monday. The turnover was Tk 47.90 crore on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the CSE (Chittagong Stock Exchange) benchmark index, CSCX, lost 111.02 points to close at 9757.18. The CSE index gained 155.21 points to close at 9868.20 on Wednesday. The bourse gained 175.03 points on Monday but lost over 268 points to close at 9537.95 on Sunday.
Of the issues traded at the CSE, 34 advanced, 140 suffered losses and 13 remained unchanged.
The twin bourses of the country experienced a downtrend since Tuesday (last week) due to political unrest and made a turnaround on Monday.
