Khulna, May 03 (UNB) – A case was filed against the city unit BNP joint secretary Prof Tariqul Islam and 11 other activists on charge of vandalizing vehicles during 24-hour hartal on Sunday and Monday.
Auto-rickshaw driver Rabiul Islam filed the case with Daulatpur Police Station against Tariqul, Sheikh Imam Hossain and 10 other local BNP leaders and workers on Thursday afternoon.
Daulatpur thana OC Md Habibur Rahman said that the CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver filed the case as the accused attacked and damaged the passing vehicles in Daulatpur area during the first and the second day`s shutdown, causing immense loss to the affected auto-rickshaw driver as well as its owner.
Earlier on the day, Tariqul along with 22 other BNP, Jubo Dal and JCD activists were released on court bail following their arrest in connection with another case filed for picketing during hartal hours.
The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate`s court passed the order following a brief hearing over their petition in the morning.
City BNP chief Nazrul Islam Manju, MP, protesting filing of cases gainst opposition leaders and workers saying that the allegations brought against the accused are fabricated, false.
``Cases are being filed against BNP leaders and workers one after another with an ulterior motive to politically harass them``, he alleged.
