Dhaka, May 7 (UNB) – The Cabinet Purchase Committee on Monday approved eight proposals, including awarding contracts for setting up of three independent power producer plants (IPP),  having 50-55 MW of capacity each.

The government will buy electricity from the plants to be set up by private sponsors.
 
The meeting, chaired by Finance Minister AMA Muhith, also approved proposals on procurement of pipeline accessories for three gas pipeline projects.
 
Of the three IPP power projects, Consortium of local firm Rupali Engineers & Traders and Indonesian firm PT Priamanaya will set up a 50-MW furnace oil-fired plant at Singair of Manikganj and another 55-MW plant at Daulatpur, Nawabganj. The tariff for both the projects was fixed at Tk 6.98 per kilowatt hour (each unit).
 
The third furnace oil-fired 50-MW IPP will be set up by the Consortium of Samuda Chemical Complex and ASM Chemical Industries Ltd. The state-owned Rural Electrification Board (REB) will buy power from the plant at Tk 7.17 per unit.
 
The three gas pipeline projects, for which the Cabinet body approved a number of bids on different procurement proposals at a total contract value of US$ 4.1 million, are Maheshkhali-Anwara Gas Transmission Line, Bibiyana-Dhanua Gas Transmission Line and Ashuganj-Bakhrabad Gas Transmission Line.
 
The cabinet body also endorsed a proposal of Communications Ministry to appoint Army-run Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory (BMTF) for introducing retro reflective number plates with radiofrequency identification system at motor vehicles at a contract value of Tk 599.60 crore. The BMTF will operate as a contractor of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).
 
The appointment of UK-based firm PKF (UK) LLP as a consultant for the Strengthening of the Comptroller and Auditor General Office project at a contract value of Tk 13. 26 was also cleared by the cabinet committee.
 
The cabinet body also gave its nod to a proposal of Railways Ministry for appointment of Indian firm ‘Consulting Engineering Group’ for consultancy services for the construction work of rail line between Khulna and Monla Seaport at a cost of Tk 15.05 crore under the Indian Dollar Credit Line Agreement.  
 
Two tender proposals of Dhaka Wasa received the approval of the cabinet body to install two storm water pumping station at Rampura and Kamqalapur. Chinese firm CAMC Engineering Company will execute the work at a contract value of Tk 203.60 crore.
