Dhaka, May 7 (UNB) – A housewife was killed allegedly by her husband for dowry on Monday in Shariatpur while mystery shrouded the death of a woman in Narayanganj.

In Shariatpur, Suma, 24, daughter of Sakim Ali Khan of Ghosher Haola of Nagerpara union of Goshairhat upazila, was killed allegedly by her husband, Yusuf Dhali, for dowry at his house at Malangchhara village on Sunday afternoon.

Locals said Yusuf Dhali, son of late Sattar Dhali, married Suma four years ago and he used to torture her over dowry since then.

On Sunday, Yusuf engaged in an altercation with Suma over the issue and at one stage mercilessly beat up her, leaving her dead on the spot.

The abusive husband then hanged her body with the ceiling of his house to prove the murder as suicide.

The body, bearing injury marks, was sent to hospital for autopsy.

In Narayanganj, mystery shrouded the death of Pinki Saha, 28, mother of two children, whose hanging body was recovered from her residence in Tanbazar in the city on Monday.

Pinki was married off with Liton Saha, a local businessman, several years ago. The couple had two school-going children.

On Monday, Liton was out to bring back home his two children from their school.

On return home along with his children, Liton found the door of his rented residence locked from inside. He broke open the door and found Pinki Saha`s body hanging from the ceiling fan in a room.

Liton and neighbours said nothing was wrong with Pinki. They doubted whether it was suicide. Police sent the body to hospital for autopsy.

Police said postmortem report will reveal the cause of her death.
