Jessore, May 8 (UNB) – US Ambassador Dan W Mozena visited the American Corner Jessore on Monday where he interacted with the leaders of seven small Jessore- and Khulna-based NGOs in a roundtable discussion that focused on women’s empowerment issues.
Through the discussion, the Ambassador heard about the status of women in Khulna Division, the challenges that women face, and the many strategies Non Governmental Organisations are employing to improve the lives and livelihoods of women in Khulna.
He applauded the work that these organisations were doing to improve the lives of women and children in Khulna Division, and all across Bangladesh, said a press release of the US Embassy.
He also spoke about how the US government has supported initiatives and programs that target rural and rural and urban women and their efforts for gaining financial independence.
He mentioned how under the International Visitors Leadership Program, the US Embassy has sent many women entrepreneurs to the US to meet their counterparts and learn new strategies that will benefit their business ventures.
USAID also has projects in many rural areas that aim at economic growth and maternal and neonatal health.
The NGOs represented were Banchte Shekha, Humanitywatch, ADORE, DHARA, Ulashi Sreejony Sangha, Joyoti Society and BNWLA.
Founded in 2005, the American Corner Jessore is open to the public and is located at the Jessore Institute Public Library, the largest and oldest library in Bangladesh.
The American Corner Jessore provides information services to the Jessore community on American history, culture, government, and commercial opportunities.
