JERUSALEM, MAY 9 (AP/UNB) - Israel is accusing Iran of "playing for time" in negotiations over its nuclear program with the international community, and says an upcoming round of talks can only succeed if the Iranians agree to halt all uranium enrichment.
Israel, like the West, believes Iran is trying to develop a nuclear bomb. Enriched uranium is a key ingredient in bomb making, though it can also be used in energy production. Iran says its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.
The world's major powers are set to hold a new round of talks with Iran on May 23 in Baghdad.
An Israeli official says Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented his position to visiting EU envoy Catherine Ashton on Wednesday.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the meeting was closed.
