Dhaka, May 9 (UNB) - The BNP-led 18-party alliance on Wednesday announced fresh agitation programmes to press for the return of missing leader M Ilias Ali and his car driver alive.
As pre the programmes, the alliance will bring out protest processions across the country on May 13 while a mass procession in the capital on May 14.
The programmes are also designed to press the government to withdraw the ‘false’ cases filed against the 18-party top leaders and the release of arrested BNP leaders, including Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the
programmes from a protest rally in front of the party’s Nayapaltan central office.
The 18-party alliance organised the protest rally demanding the rescue of missing BNP organising secretary Ilias Ali, withdrawal of cases against the alliance leaders and the release of BNP leaders, including Ruhul Kabir
Rizvi.
Announcing the fresh programmes, he said the protest processions will be organised in district headquarters and cities across the country on May 13.
The next agitation programmes will be announced on May 14, he added.
Narrating the government’s repression on its political opponents, he said people are now united on a single demand that the government must quit immediately.
He said the demand for holding the next general election under a non-party neutral caretaker government is not only the demand of the opposition but foreigners also want that the next polls in Bangladesh be held under a non-party neutral administration.
About Ilias Ali, Fakhrul said ‘government men’ picked Ilias up and he must be returned alive to his family.
Addressing the demonstration, BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed strongly criticised the government’s plan to give scope again for whitening black money in the next national budget.
He said the step has been taken so that ministers, MPs and the ruling party men can whiten their black money they amassed illegally from the railway sector, the share market and underhand dealings.
Chaired by BNP Dhaka city member secretary Abdus Salam, the protest rally was addressed, among others, by BNP leaders Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Abdullah Al Noman, Shamsuzzman Dudu, Amanullah Aman, M Shahjahan, Fazlul Huq Milon, Nazimuddin Alam, Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mojibur Rahman, Mia Golam Parwar, Hamidur Rahman Azad, JAGPA president Shafiul Alam Prodhan, BJP secretary general Shamim Al Mamun and IOJ secretary general Abdul Latif Nezami.
