News - N’ganj drug peddlers chop off 2 DNC men’s hands
Dhaka, May 9 (UNB) - A group of drug peddlers attacked a team of intelligence men of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) in Narayanganj during their drive at Rupganj on Tuesday morning almost cutting off the hands of two.

DNC sources said constable Matin got his right hand almost separated while Azad his left hand in the gruesome attack.

Inspector Azam Shah Alamgir and sub-inspector Sumon were also critically injured in the attack. They were admitted to Trauma Hospital in the city’s Shayamoli area.

According to the sources, an unarmed Narcotics intelligence team, led by senior inspector Azam Shah Alamgir, raided a drug den at Masumpur in Morapara under Rupganj Police Station around 11:30 am.

Sensing the presence of the intelligence men, the drug peddlers, numbering 15-20, attacked them with sharp weapons like Ramdao and Ballom (locan weapons), said inspector Aziz of the DNC.

Inspector Aziz, who is also the president of Inspector Associations of DNC, told UNB that they have to conduct raids on drug dens without firearms as there is no provision for them to have firearms from the government.
“This incident proves that DNC members should be provided with firearms,” he said.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Shahara Khatun visited the injured DNC men at the hospital on Wednesday evening.

She enquired about their health condition and wished their early recovery.
